Selection Process
- Preliminary Exam: Objective-type screening test.
- Main Exam: Descriptive-type, in-depth assessment.
- Interview/Oral Test: Evaluates personality and suitability (100 marks, no qualifying marks).
Eligibility
- Age Limit: 21–34 years for most posts (32 years for District Educational Officer). Reserved categories receive a 5-year age relaxation.
Educational Qualification
- A bachelor’s degree from a recognized university and adequate knowledge of Tamil.

- Online applications were accepted from April 1 to April 30, 2025, via the TNPSC website.
- Candidates must complete a one-time registration, upload documents, and pay fees.
Exam Date
- The 2025 Preliminary Exam is scheduled for June 15, 2025, with the Mains date to be announced later.

TNPSC SYLLABUS
TNPSC Group 1 Prelims Syllabus
Preliminary Exam is a screening test consisting of one objective-type paper with 200 questions, each carrying 1.5 marks (total 300 marks)
Duration is 3 hours, and there is NO negative marking.
Syllabus is divided into two parts :
General Studies (Degree Standard)
Aptitude & Mental Ability (SSLC Standard). The exam is bilingual (English and Tamil).
General Studies (175 Questions, 262.5 Marks)
Prelims syllabus covers 10 units, focusing on broad topics relevant to Tamil Nadu and India:
- General Science: Physics: Laws, mechanics, energy, electricity, light, sound, nuclear physics. Chemistry: Elements, compounds, acids, bases, fertilizers, metallurgy. Biology: Classification, evolution, genetics, diseases, ecology, biotechnology. Scientific advancements and applications.
- Current Events: History, polity, geography, economics, science, awards, and prominent personalities.
- Geography of India: Physical features, climate, soil, rivers, vegetation, resources, transport, population.
- History and Culture of India: Indus Valley, Vedic Age, empires, cultural heritage, reform movements.
- Indian Polity: Constitution, fundamental rights, duties, federalism, judiciary, elections, anti-corruption.
- Indian Economy: Economic structure, agriculture, industry, banking, poverty, rural development
- Indian National Movement: Freedom struggle, key leaders, Tamil Nadu’s contributions.
- History, Culture, and Socio-Political Movements in Tamil Nadu: Tamil society, literature, Dravidian movement, social reforms, freedom struggle.

TNPSC Group 1 Mains Syllabus
- Mains Exam is descriptive, consisting of four papers, each lasting 3 hours.
- Total marks are 850 (750 for written papers + 100 for the interview).
- Paper I is a qualifying paper, and only candidates securing minimum qualifying marks in Paper I will have Papers II, III, and IV evaluated.
- Syllabus is degree-standard, with a focus on conceptual and analytical understanding.
Paper I: Tamil Eligibility Test (SSLC Standard, 100 Marks, Qualifying)
- Objective: Tests proficiency in Tamil language skills.
- Topics: Tamil to English translation and English to Tamil translation., Precis writing, comprehension, and hints development, Essay writing on Thirukkural., Letter writing (official).
